Who we are

Team Phoenix is about unity, self-improvement, acceptance, tolerance, friendship, and community. We are a bunch of like-minded individuals who are passionate about martial arts and have created a space where you can improve yourself physically and mentally without judgment.

 

Whatever your goals are, we will help you to achieve them. Since 1997 it has been our honour and privilege to work with thousands of students to help them learn and grow.

 

Whether you are with us for a month or a decade we hope you gain something you can take forward into the rest of your life. 

Team Phoenix is a full-time Martial Arts School that teaches a variety of arts from around the world.

 

We have a 195sqm training area with heavy bags, kick shields, and all the pads and gloves you could wish for! We have a warm-up area with skipping ropes, kettlebells, and Swiss balls for all of your pre or post-training workout needs. Changing rooms, toilets, and our relaxing lounge area complete with a complimentary lending library is available for all members!

Our classes

What sort of thing are you looking for? We have classes that cover a wide variety of martial arts, but all have common threads so that you will feel right at home in any of them!

 

Do you want to do a kickboxing style with knees and elbows? Then Muay Thai is the class for you.

 

Maybe kickboxing, trapping, and a bit of wooden dummy training? Then Jeet Kune Do may be the answer!

 

Kickboxing with takedowns and grappling something you would be interested in? Then Shoot Wrestling is for you.

 

How about kickboxing and learning how to swing a weapon or two? That's the Kali class!

Maybe a pure self-defence art that focuses not only on physical but emotional and psychological training to deal with confrontation and how to get home safe then Monkey Mind is the class for you. 

 

Fancy dipping in and out, or doing every single class we offer? Thats no problem as all of our full curriculums have things in common to make the learning process as smooth as possible. 

Muay Thai

The national sport of Thailand. If you want to have a great workout while learning punching, kicking, knees and elbows. Throw in a little clinching and kick catching and this is the class for you!

Muay Thai Camp Training

Just like the classes in Thailand! These classes are open style training and include skipping, Kettle bells, bag work, Thai pad rounds, sparring and clinch. 

 

You can come and go anytime during the class and train as much or as little as you like! Our coaches are there to hold pads and guide you, but in this class you can choose your own adventure!

Jeet Kune Do

The creation of the late great Bruce Lee. If having a great workout while learning kickboxing with trapping and a pinch of wooden dummy training is for you then give this class a go!

My passion is to teach and train martial arts and to inspire my students to live their best life. I am constantly striving to develop my teaching methodology so I can give my best to my students.

 

I love being part of a group that doesn't take itself too seriously even though we are serious about training!

 

I have been training in a wide range of martial arts since my mother enrolled me in a Taekwondo class in 1992. I began teaching in 1997 and have been teaching full-time since 2001.

I have had the privilege to teach and train all over the world and with some amazing and inspiring people. My main coaches and influences are Ron Balicki, Johan Skalberg, Richard Smith, Liam Harrison, Andy Howsen, Rungchai Makete, and Kowlan Lek.

 

I have worked as a Door supervisor, security guard, and close protection officer.

 

I am a certified instructor in the following arts:

 

  • Filipino Kali/Lameco Eskrima - Full Instructor under Ron Balicki

  • Kali Sikaran International -Katulungan Guro (Senior Instructor) under Johan Skalberg

 

  • Jeet Kune Do/ Jun Fan - Full Instructor under Ron Balicki
