We are a martial arts school that is dedicated to inspiring  our students to improve physically and mentally and to help them develop the confidence to live an extraordinary life.


Team Phoenix teaches Muay Thai, Shoot Wrestling, Monkey Mind Personal Protection, Kali Sikaran and Ju-jitsu to a diverse community of people from all ages, backgrounds and walks of life.


Everyone has different reasons and goals for training, be it fitness, self defence, grading, competition or increased self-confidence. Our team will work to the best of our abilities to help you achieve your goals.


Team Phoenix has been located in the Ouseburn Valley since 2002. Experienced instructors teach a diverse range of arts with a focus on personal development.


Muay Thai

Muay Thai is the national sport of Thailand and has a rich history. The Roots of Muay Thai date back to the battlefields of Siam where the Thais used the ancient arts of Muay Boran and Krabi Krabong to defend their homeland. Today the ring sport of Muay Thai uses punches, kicks, knees, elbows and clinch work and is practiced all over the world.


What to expect: Muay Thai Classes at Team Phoenix consists of technical training to give you the correct technique, as well as pad work, light sparring, stamina and conditioning training.

Kali Sikaran

Kali Sikaran is an amazing method of self defence! Originating in the Philippines, Kali Sikaran is a modern approach to an ancient art that will teach you how to defend yourself with and without weapons. 

Kali Sikaran is a fun and challenging art that will bring you to new levels of speed, coordination, fitness and self confidence


What to expect: In this class you will be learning Boxing, Kickboxing, Trapping and grappling skills with a self defence perspective. You will also be learning weapon skills and defence.

Fitness and Sparring

These classes are free to all Team Phoenix Members!


Martial Fitness:

Strength and conditioning, circuits, kettle bells and body weigh excercises will help you tone up and get fit!

Monday 5:15pm - 6:00pm

Saturday 2:00pm - 3:00pm


Sparring class:

Gives you a chance to try your technique in a safe sparring format. includes sparring in all areas, sparring games and excercise.

Wednesday 5:15pm - 6:00pm

Shoot Wrestling

Shoot Wrestling is a Hybrid Mixed Martial Arts style that was founded by Satoro Sayama in 1985. Shoot Wrestling combines elements of Muay Thai, Judo, Sambo, and Catch as Catch can wrestling to provide students a well rounded fighting style. If you want to learn MMA in a friendly and non intimidating environment, this is the class for you! We have a full grading curriculum for goal setting and skill progression.


What to expect:  we focus on giving you the fundamentals of Striking, Clinch, Takedowns, Ground positioning, Submissions, and Escapes. Classes include warm ups, technical training, conditioning and Sparring.

Phoenix Kids

Our aim is to produce the best from your child!

Our classes  build on your Child's confidence, giving them the physical and mental attributes that they will use throughout their lives.

The class focuses on teaching the basics of Ju-Jitsu and self defence and also teach children about themselves and their capabilities. We have a comprehensive grading curriculum to help them progress from white to black belt 

All instructors are CRB checked and have undergone child protection training and first aid training.  All qualifications on public display.


Parents are welcome at any class and staff will be happy to discuss any part of the training, organisation or practises of the club.

Monkey mind is an innovative new system of self-defence that gives people just like you a plan for safety, self-confidence and fitness.


You will learn simple techniques and tactics in a fun and challenging way. Our unique training method builds your fitness and confidence to make the right decision at the right time to allow you to escape and survive anything life throws at you.

Ju-jitsu is the ancient martial art of the samurai warriors that used an opponents force against them.

The modern day expression of Ju-jitsu is a fantastic way to get fit, have fun, learn how to defend yourself and build confidence.

We have a comprehensive grading curriculum to help you progress from white to black belt and beyond.

What to expect: In this class you will learn strikes, blocks, locks, throws, chokes, weapon and ground defence. Classes include warm ups, technical training, sparring, and conditioning.
